Ready to roll up your sleeves and take a deep dive into your project? With our developmental editing service, an editor will take a close, comprehensive look at your manuscript and provide direction on fundamental aspects of your work, such as structure and content.

Best For: Writers who have an unpolished draft and are ready to evaluate fundamental elements like structure and content.

What’s Included: Applying the Chicago Manual of Style, an editor will read your unfinished or first-draft manuscript to assess the content of the book. Edits will be provided as in-line comments. For fiction, the editor will look at plot structure, character development, and pacing. For non-fiction, the editor will look at the organization of the information and whether it is engaging and understandable.

What’s Not Included: While the editor will point out where content needs improvement and may offer suggestions on how to make it better, they will not write the improved version for you. After an author receives their developmental edits, it is expected that they will rewrite or complete the manuscript. Because of this, no input on spelling, typos, grammar, readability, etc. is provided. It is recommended that the author have the revised manuscript edited again, using either our line editing or copy editing service.

Turnaround Time: 21 business days

To purchase this service, run a word count on your document, divide that number by 1000, and round up to the nearest whole number to find your quantity. Example: For a 53,421 word manuscript, your quantity would be 54. Enter that quantity into the item field above and click "Add to Cart" to estimate your price and finalize your purchase.
